Nebraska Roads Facts

Nebraska's gas tax is 27.3 cents between January 1 to June 30, 2017.

One cent of gas tax raises $12 million in Nebraska.

The Federal fuel tax is 18.4 cents for gas.

  • 24.4 cents for diesel
  • Heavy vehicle and tire use tax

The state construction program is funded by user fees and taxes:
  • Federal fuel tax
  • State fixed and variable fuel tax
  • Sales tax on vehicles
  • Sales tax on leased vehicles
  • A portion of the motor vehicle registration fee

  • Nebraska ranks #28 out of 50 states

The program amount for the Nebraska Department of Roads was $500 million for 2016 and 2017.

Based on average miles driven per year of 12,000 miles at 20 miles per gallon and use of 600 gallons per year, the annual cost for the vehicle owner would be:
          State gas tax:          $163.80
          Federal gas tax:      $100.40
          Total gas tax:           $274.20
