NDOT Announces Procurement Schedule for Emergency Relief Projects
May 10, 2019 (Lincoln, Neb.) — Today, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) announced a tentative procurement schedule for nine emergency relief projects related to the March 2019 flooding. These projects are the most complex of NDOT's flood repairs and required significant design work prior to construction. To streamline the procurement process and expedite projects, the NDOT has shortlisted contractors based upon a proven ability to complete complex projects quickly and efficiently.
Two of the projects, US-281 south of Spencer and N-12 west of Niobrara, require the contractor to obtain and construct a 600' long temporary bridge and have it open by late summer. In addition, at these two locations the contractor must construct the permanent bridges and have them open to traffic by winter 2020. The contractors selected for the bridges on N-12 and US-281 are Kiewit Construction, Hawkins Construction, Cramer and Associates, Kraemer North America, Jensen Construction, United Contractors and A.M. Cohron and Son. In addition to these two locations, there are seven other locations where the citizens of Nebraska are enduring the challenges of a closed highway for which we are preparing procurement documents. NDOT expanded the list of contractors to include KEA Constructors, Simon Contractors, and Herbst Construction.
